Public domainPlate 11: Arsenura armida and the Coral Tree
In 1699 a divorced woman of fifty-two boarded a ship for Surinam with her younger daughter, funded by her own engravings. Two years in the jungle produced the Metamorphosis: insect life cycles drawn from living specimens, engraved and hand-coloured by her. Plate 11 — the giant Arsenura moths on the coral tree.
