The Card Players

Two men, a game, not a word: the solemnity of the humble. Two players seated in the silence of the Jas de Bouffan (between 1890 and 1895, 47 × 56.5 cm, Musée d'Orsay). The exhibition's version — neither the Met's, nor the Berggruen study nearby.

This work appears in the Grand Palais exhibition 'Cezanne et nous' (23 September 2026 – 17 January 2027).
