Girl in the Garden

Sewing outdoors, free: independence in the garden. A young woman sews in a garden, between 1880 and 1882 (92.5 × 65 cm, Musée d'Orsay, Personnaz bequest 1937). Cassatt, active in the Impressionist group, paints open air without anecdote: steady gesture, vivid green. The painting was shown at the last Impressionist exhibition, in 1886.
