Public domainFrench Rose (Rosa gallica)
The summit of French elegance in stipple. Rosa gallica stipple-engraved and watercolour-finished for Les Roses (1817-1824). Redouté's stipple renders petal velvet with no visible line: the classical reference against Thornton's romantic exuberance.
Plate from the virtual exhibition Wondrous Flora (Trace Museum, 1705-1887).
