Harold's Capture in Ponthieu

Embroidered Latin titulus: « HIC APPREHENDIT WIDO HAROLDUM ET DUXIT EUM AD BELREM »

After crossing the English Channel, Harold's fleet is driven off course onto the hostile coast of Ponthieu. Upon disembarking, Count Guy of Ponthieu arrests Harold and his men to claim a ransom, leading them as captives to his castle of Beaurain.

This fragment belongs to a continuous narrative: the upper and lower registers extend the main story with a bestiary, decorative motifs and symbolic echoes.
